Charles McShane

The 1911 census contains only 7 Charles McShane. This Charles McShane was reported in the Belfast Newsletter as passing away a week before the publication date of 30 Augist 1938. It is reported that he survived the battle of Isandhlwana the scene of the worst disaster which befel the British expeditionary force during the Zulu war, on 21st January 1879. If Charles had served in the war then as a minimum age he would have been around 17 years, placing a year of birth before 1862, if this was the case then Charles would have been at least 48 during the 1911 census. Of the 7 Charles McShane's listed in the census in Ireland in 1911 only 2 are above 38 years of age and are from Armagh and Tyrone. Both of these locations would be close to County Tyrone and if Charles was still in the country during 1911 he could have been one of the two. However to have lived until 1938 If Charles was 17 at the time of the battle he would have lived until 75years of age while the Glencosh Charles would have died at 85 years. Are any of these the same Charles?
