According to PIGOT and Co's Provincial Directory of 1825, Hacketstown is a village in an angle of the county of Carlow and barony of Rathvilly, thirty-two miles south of Dublin, seven miles from Tullow, and fourteen from Carlow.
POST OFFICE 1824. - Post Master, Mr. Edward Boyd. The Mail is conveyed by horse to Baltinglass on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays, at two; and returns on the same days, at forty minutes past eight. The office is open from seven till eleven.
