Armagh - a brief history:-

The Post Office opened around 1650 as a Post Town. The 1st Office is believed to have been located in Market Street (needs Confirmed).

Post Master in c1770 - Thomas Johnston (source 1768 Belfast Newsletter)
c1800 / 1801 was Ann Bolton (POA Post 59/25)
c1820, Piggott's 1824 directory records the Post Office at Scotch Street under Mrs Abigail Bolton. The Bradshaw Directory of 1820 also reports this. (Abigail may also have been PM in 1809?)

1830-Feb 65, The Derry Standard in 1829-40 reports a PM as R. Birch, Scotch Strret.
Thoms Directory of 1844 notes number 63 or 65 under Robert Birch. At approximately 1850 the PO moved to Russell Street.

Jul 1865-1887 PM as John Williams, Russell Street. The Belfast Newsletter on 29th Sep 1868 reports of a new PO in Armaghs, Russell Street, did it move across the road?
1887-1899, PM James Bell, Russell Street. In 1882 the PO did move across to the other side of the street.
